PIONEER, TN (WATE) - A mother was thankful to be alive after a freak accident a few days ago on Highway 63 in Tennessee.
Elise Massey was driving when a wooden board smashed through her front windshield. She said it flew out of a pickup truck heading the other direction.
Massey managed to walk away without any injuries.
She said she had little time to react before it pierced her windshield. Massey has three kids, but none of them were in the car with her when it happened.
"The fact that I was not hurt or dead, yeah it just ran through my mind," she said.
A similar accident happened on the same highway almost exactly three years ago. Lynsee Reneau passed away in 2015 after a steel rod smashed through her windshield and seriously injured her, according to a family member. Her sister and two-year-old son were in the car at the time.
Massey counted herself as lucky and so did the first responders who helped her.
"The ambulance driver asked me if I went to church and said no I didn't. And he told me maybe I should and when I do, I need to get a lottery ticket on my way there," Massey said.
She hoped her near miss warns drivers to secure their load before hitting the road.
